A fleet of 4,000 BMW vehicles, including several MINI cars, have been assisting with a wide variety of tasks during the London 2012 Olympic Games, ensuring smooth operations and even adding a little style to the event.
Vehicles were tasked with carrying medal winners around Olympic park, providing mobile platforms for film crews – even towing a horse ambulance to the numerous equestrian events. One of the goals of the London Olympics was to make the games as sustainable and environmentally friendly as possible. The fuel-efficient MINI lineup and some choice electric BMW vehicles were key components of this effort.
“In its intent to make London the most sustainable games, London Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games required that the fleet meet an emission target of 120 grams of CO2 per kilometer,” said BMW UK Olympics communications manager Michelle Roberts. She went on to add, “We believe we can beat that and achieve a target of 116 grams.”
MINI’s British heritage make it a perfect fit for the London Games, both iconic and practical!
