Philadelphia, PA - In what may be one of the most poorly planned crime sprees in recent memory, a thief this week broke into a house in the Philadelphia suburbs and made off with several bikes and the homeowner's brightly-colored MINI Cabrio. The not-too-bright criminal then proceeded to use the polka-dotted MINI as a "getaway" car in several more bike thefts.
Unfortunately for this criminal mastermind, the thefts were captured on video, which was then posted to a Facebook group dedicated to recovering stolen bikes. The very recognizable MINI made it easy to track down the culprit, who was actually found sleeping in the vehicle. According to the owner, John Caulfield, who was home at the time of the initial burglary, the multi-color scheme on the MINI is just a plastic wrap that could have easily been peeled off.
Says Caulfield, "The car is pretty noticeable. It's the only pink, yellow, blue MINI with orange polka dots in the city and so I was surprised that whoever had the car was still driving it around."
