MINI USA debuted its latest John Cooper Works model this past Monday in a preview to the Detroit Auto Show.
The Cooper Works edition pays homage to the marque’s long motorsport heritage. In fact it does more than just pay homage. With a 228-horsepower turbocharged engine and a top speed of 153 mph, this machine can boast a true performance pedigree.
MINI vice president of sales Jochen Goller, gave John Cooper Works MINI to race car driver Rauno Altonen at the unveiling on Monday. Altonen, who won the 1967 Rallye Monte Carlo in a Mini-Cooper S, said that “The classic MINI has still its own distinctive charm...but the modern MINI has plenty of benefits…the high amount of torque really sits you back in your seat when you hit the gas.
MINI hopes that the fastest, sportiest MINI model yet, along with several other model launches, will propel the brand through 2015.
The Detroit Auto Show will open to the public January 17th and runs until the 25th. Tickets are $7 for senior citizens and children between 7-12 years old; $13 for adults; and free for children 6 and under. For more information, visit naias.com.
