The limited edition John Cooper Works World Championship 50 is coming to the U.S., and – if you can find one – expect to pony up 40 large.
MINI is celebrating both the man who made MINI and the man who made MINI famous with its John Cooper Works World Championship 50 special edition. It was in the summer of 1959 when Alec Issigonis famously drew up his concept for a small car with a space-saving transverse-mounted engine on a napkin, and later that same year when sports car builder John Cooper won his first Formula One World Championship. Soon thereafter, Mr. Cooper met the MINI, and the rest is legend.
This version will include the same 208HP turbocharged 1.6 liter four-cylinder engine and JCW suspension package as available in John Cooper Works trim, but badged and in dual-striped British racing green. For this brand of exclusivity, expect to kick out $40,000, which, you could argue, is a lot to pay for a MINI. Still, if you don’t mind paying then you better start looking, as they’re only manufacturing 250 of them, with just 50 of them coming over to America. Cheers!
