Cars have often been the unheralded stars of movies. Now think back…what’s the first movie car that comes to your mind?
Was it Herbie “The Love Bug” (ol’ #53)? Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? That time-traveling De Lorean DMC-12 from Back To The Future?
Those came in fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, in a “Top Movie Cars Of All Time” survey underwritten by Uniroyal Tires.
(You know where this is going, don’t you?)
Number 10 was the Autobot Bumblebee from the Transformers. Number nine was Lady Penelope’s pink Rolls-Royce motorcar from Thunderbirds. Way back at number eight, surprisingly, was The General Lee from the Dukes of Hazzard. That was edged out by The Batmobile at Number seven.
That brings us back to Number Three, which for many in our informal office survey showed up first: James Bond’s Aston Martin Vanquish from Die Another Day. Coming in at Number two was a bit of a surprise: the artificial intelligence car KITT from Knight Rider.
And Number One, which was actually three cars, were the three MINI Cooper S’s of the blockbuster movie, The Italian Job.
(Didn’t that movie feature Charleze Theron behind the wheel of one of those MINIs? We’re sure that had nothing to do with the win.)
