“No tricks. No gimmicks. No jokes. We promise.” Seriously, MINI?
The upcoming race where MINI has challenged the Porsche 911 to a race-off on the famed Road Atlanta professional racetrack is coming up a bit short. Rather than take on Porsche on the 2.54 mile loop (with plenty of fast track there to stretch the Porsche’s race-bred 300+ horsepower), it seems MINI has instead dropped a couple of hundred cones around the school course and training area located on the infield by turns 6 and 7. This will favor MINI’s famed go-kart handling and, if not completely eliminate, at least vastly curtail the Porsche’s horsepower advantage.
Here’s the text from their latest ad:
NO TRICKS. NO GIMMICKS. NO JOKES. WE PROMISE.
This track has been designed with both cars in mind to ensure neither has the clear advantage. While some sections favor MINI’s go-kart handling, others set Porsche’s 385 horses loose. The cars start off facing in opposite directions. They race around the same track counterclockwise until they finish by crossing the finish line, again in opposite directions. The race will consist of four individual laps, alternating starting position.
Well… the race is set for today – the first day of Summer – so we’ll see if Porsche takes the bait or not.
