Two MINIs – one diesel, one electric – take on each other and the world to see who uses the least energy in a 60-mile race.
Paddy Hopkirk became a driving legend along with his MINI when he won the 1964 Monte Carlo Rally. David Richards won the British and World Rally Championship in his MINI. Now Paddy will drive a production MINI Cooper Diesel against David’s prototype electric powered MINI-E. Each will be trying the be the most efficient in terms of energy used by their respective cars over a 60-mile course.
And they won’t be alone.
Over 60 other new energy vehicles will also be in competition using a wide range of power sources, including electric, low-emission gas, various forms of hybrids and even a hydrogen powered vehicle. Manufacturers getting in the race form a virtual Who’s Who of automotive imagination, including BMW, Fiat, Ford, Honda, Mercedes-Benz, Mitsubishi, Renault, Skoda, Smart, Tata, Tesla, Toyota, Vauxhall and Volkswagen.
Now this should be interesting…
