…and it’s not as steep as you thought!
MINI announced some pricing details at yesterday's press launch for the 2011 models, and it looks like the Countryman will price out only $550 more than the equivalent Clubman, coming in with a base price of around $22,350.
Of course, a well-equipped Countryman S version with the 181hp turbocharged 1.8 liter engine and All4 all-wheel-drive would push toward the $30k mark, but you’re still getting a lot more MINI than a Clubman here, and compared to the competition it looks even better. Consider the Nissan Juke (ugly, at $18,900), the Mitsubishi Outlander Sport (ditto, $18,500) and the Volkswagen Tiguan (hard to pronounce, $23,200) and you’ll see a handsome rake like the Countryman is priced very competitively.
Look for it here in the States starting in January.
