The school is Toff...but its steps are Toff-er. That's what a Toff student - one of the UK's top learning institutions - discovered as he tried to recreate a scene from the Italian Job by driving his MINI up (not down) a flight of steps.
Here's more proof that money doesn't equal smarts. The Harrow-educated Toff student had just been given a shiny silver MINI the day before by his rich parents, so he thought it would be fun to drive around the halls at up to 40mph, shrieking with laughter in a 20-minute rampage over pavements and lawns with another student. They woke other students who were furious at the drunken pair, one saying, “What a prat. He said he was out of his head and wanted to recreate the Italian Job. The car conked out and it’s in a right state. He made himself look an idiot. His parents had faces like thunder. Most people would love a car like that.”
Six security staff, two police cars and a helicopter were scrambled to arrest the 18-year-old for drunk-driving at 1am. The second student escaped from the car at Bristol University’s Wills Hall. The police report said that it piled into the steps of his digs at 30mph, causing the radiator to blow up, the two front tires to burst and both airbags to explode. A police spokesman said: “He tried to recreate the Italian Job — but in the film they don’t get caught.”
The student spent a night in the cells. He was charged with drunk-driving and released but he has only been at the university a month and faces being kicked out. Then he'll have to deal with his parents.
