A group of Australians have partnered with Chery Automotives of China to recreate the legendary MINI Moke, a Jeep-like-type dune buggy that has not been produced since 1992.
The Australian group has been voicing their desire to reintroduce the Moke since 2005 with little to show for it. However a new partnership with the Chinese company Chery Automotives looks to make this dream a reality. The vehicle will be built entirely from Chery components, including Chery’s 1-liter inline 3 engine which produces a whopping 64.5 horsepower - nearly double the output of the vehicle’s original 8500cc A-series engine. Early reports from Jalopnik indicate that the group is also planning for an all-electric eMoke with a top speed of 40 mph and a range of 74 miles on a single charge.
It’s doubtful that the Moke will ever make its way to U.S. shores which is a shame. While the vehicle isn’t very practical, it would certainly sell several units as an enthusiast hobby car. Stay tuned for future updates.
