It appears that MINI could be joining the ranks of Mitsubishi and Subaru by producing a street-legal version of their WRC Countryman rally car.
While unconfirmed, sources indicate that MINI is following the example set by Mitsubishi and Subaru when they launched road-legal editions of their popular Evo and STI World Rally Championship autos. Considering the success these vehicles have experienced in the mainstream market, it seems logical that MINI would want to throw their hat in the ring.
The MINI WRC Countryman uses the stock Countryman chassis, and is equipped with the same ALL4 all-wheel-drive system. Styling, as you can imagine, is more aggressive in the WRC model, reflecting the car’s sporting heritage. The MINI WRC Countryman street-legal model will also feature a stiffer suspension and larger brakes than its Countryman cousin, insuring the vehicle lives up to the spirit of its rally car billing.
Also contributing to the rally identity is the presence of the 1.6 liter, four-cylinder Di turbo-charged engine found in the current MINI WRC Countryman, which is rumored to be included in the street-legal edition. Like its Japanese competitors, this car should not be short on thrills.
