MINI has debuted it’s all new MINI One at this year’s Geneva Motor Show, a diminutive, less expensive MINI offering that closely resembles its larger MINI Cooper and MINI Cooper S siblings.
At first glance, the MINI One looks nearly identical to the existing MINI Cooper. Those with a discerning eye will notice a smaller set of wheels, a non-contrasting roof and a simpler lower intake system. Underneath the hood, the MINI One draws its power from a 1.2 liter 3-cylinder engine good for 120 hp and a report 0-62 mph time of 9.9 seconds. While the engine is smaller than the 3-cylinder found in the Cooper (by .3 cylinders) it benefits from the same TwinPower turbo technology, direct injection and variable valve and cam timing. Fuel economy on the One is an impressive 61.4 mpg when paired with a 6-speed manual transmission.
MINI will also be releasing a One D diesel variant using the same 1.5 liter diesel engine found in the current Cooper D, albeit with 21 less hp (95 hp compared to 116 hp). Unsurprisingly, the One really shines in the fuel economy department, boasting 83.1 mpg with the standard transmission.
