MINI John Cooper Works has been awarded first place in “Sport Auto” magazine’s readers’ choice awards, in the small import car category.
This award is a continuation of a series of successes in the German magazine’s annual awards competition.
The award is based on the JCW model’s outstanding performance and properties- the most powerful engine ever installed in any production MINI, the 2 liter, 4-cylinder petrol “TwinPower” turbo, producing 231 horsepower, 35 miles per gallon, and combined CO2 emissions of 165 g/km. The technology used in the engine, suspension and aerodynamics is descended directly from motorsport. All of these traits combine to make a uniquely distinctive vehicle that provides excitement and driving fun, Model-specific design features distinguish the MINI JCW from other models.
With the 6-speed manual trans, the MINI John Cooper Works accelerates from 0 to 60 mph in 6.1 seconds, or 5.9 with the optional 6-speed Steptronic sports transmission, reaching a top speed of 153 mph.
The “Sport Auto" award has been issued since 1980. This year, 13,601 readers voted in 30 series production car categories and 10 tuning model classes.
