A modified MINI Countryman has once again won the Dakar Rally, an epic endurance race that spanned over 5000 miles and three different countries. More impressive yet, the MINI Countryman also took second and third place in the event, thoroughly dominating the field.
It’s important to note that while this X-Raid Countryman bares a striking resemblance to the production MINI Countryman, the competition vehicle’s parts are almost entirely different. From the 3.0 liter diesel engine (rated at 307 horsepower and 516 lb-ft of torque), to the all-custom tube frame chassis, this vehicle is, technically, far from MINI. Regardless, the accomplishment is significant and provides great press for MINI and top-notch advertising for the Countryman.
The Dakar Rally was hosted in South American for the 6th straight years, and saw participants navigating the rugged terrain of the Andes Mountain Range and the Acatama Desert as they made their way through Argentina, Bolivia and Chile.
