MINI has been been offering diesel variants for portions of their vehicle lineup in the UK for ten years. The added torque and fuel efficiency of these models have made them popular choices overseas, despite being unavailable here in the U.S.
The MINI Cooper D, MINI Cooper SD and the MINI Countryman D models have been strong sellers in Europe, where diesel vehicles are much more common than they are here in the states. We feel for the U.S. MINI enthusiasts who long for a diesel Cooper; as diehard Land Rover fans (www.roverparts.com) we are all too familiar with the frustrations felt by fans clamoring for popular diesel models unavailable on North American shores (like the Defender). Like with Land Rover, rumors have circulated about the possibility of diesel MINIs being brought to the U.S. in coming years, but we’ve heard this talk before. We’ll believe it when we see it.
