XRaid's MINI ALL4 Racing Team consisting of 2015 champions Nasser Al-Attiyah (Qatar) and Mathieu Baumel (France) have taken the eighth stage in this years 2016 Dakar Rally. The specially constructed MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles are once again showing an excellent performance in the grueling off-road race.
The Dakar Rally consists of 13 stages covering over 9000 kilometers of which most is cross country. The route takes competitors from Buenos Aires Argentina, into Bolivia, and then back to Argentina finishing in the town of Rosario.
There are several teams this year running the popular MINI ALL4 Racing vehicles- modified Countryman ALL4s which feature uprated suspension and body components as well as a special six-cylinder BMW turbo diesel engine, just the thing for plugging through the sandy desert terrain that covers much of the route.
At the end of stage eight there were four MINI teams in the top ten, with All Attiyah and Baumel taking the win and three others taking spots five through seven. An ALL4 Racing MINI has been the winning car in the last 4 years of Dakar.
As of the current stage ten, Al-Attiyah’s car is one minute behind that of competitors Stéphane Peterhansel and Jean-Paul Cottret, both of France and driving for Peugeot in their 2008 DKR rally machine. There are three X-Raid MINI ALL4 racing in the top 5 rankings.
BMW has an excellent day by day breakdown of all the MINI Dakar entries and their standings, along with lots of great photos.
