Ward's Auto World, a magazine for and about the global auto industry, has declared MINI’s 1.5 liter 3 Cylinder engine one of the 10 best engines for 2015.
The 3-banger is the base engine used in MINI’s 2014 and 2015 hardtop models. Ward's auto editors cited the engine's ability to achieve fuel economy over 30mpg without sacrificing fun and performance.
MINI representatives claim that The 1.5 Liter 3-cylinder has “revolutionized” performance of their entry level model, boosting torque by 42%, cutting 2.3 seconds off the 0-60 acceleration time and providing an 8% improvement in fuel economy, compared to the previous 4 cylinder engine.
The Ward’s 10 best engines competition has been ongoing for 21 years. Vehicles are test driven by the editors of the magazine on their daily travels, and are scored based on a variety of factors. Noise, vibration, harshness, fuel economy, performance, sound, and how well they are paired with the vehicle are all considered. Winners of the award were announced in mid December, and the awards will be given at a banquet in January.
