This past weekend at a "Time Attack" motorsport event in the UK, this jet engine-powered MINI Cooper crashes straight through a fence at the very beginning of its run. Yes it does. Video after the break.
One can only wonder what the driver of the car was thinking when he decided to strap himself into this contraption on a wet racetrack on a rainy day in the UK.
According to this article, the driver was actually just trying to line up for a run in the opposite direction, and the vehicle may have accelerated more than he intended. According to the reports from the Snetterton raceway where the event took place, the track was greasy with rubber from tires, oil dripped from the cars, and then everything slicked over with the ever-present UK rain.
Apparently, the owner and driver of the rig, British inventor Andrew Pleszko, has done this before albeit with a smaller engine. And has published some other videos of the previous incarnation of the MINI as well as a variety of other wacky projects.
Fortunately, neither Pleszko nor any bystanders were injured during the incident. Do I need to say it? Kids, don't try this at home.
