Italian automobile manufacturer Fiat unveiled their brand new 500L model before the Geneva Auto Show last week, and its no stretch to say that the car bares a close resemblance to the MINI Clubman and Countryman vehicles.
A couple weeks ago we featured a story on the sporty Kia Track’ster, an ambitious concept that closely resembled the MINI Cooper in both shape and size. In that article we predicted that MINI’s stranglehold on a growing market would cause other automakers to imitate some of the company’s design features. Struggling U.S. sales of the Fiat 500 hatch and convertible has led Fiat to experiment with a larger, more practical vehicle model. Enter the Fiat 500L.
The “L” in the 500L stands for Large, a nod to the car’s increased dimensions (which provide seating for a fifth passenger) and four doors. Fiat is hoping the 500L will appeal to a broader audience than the smaller 500 hatch, luring some would-be MINI customers to give the Italian ride a try.
