OK…you can probably guess the worst State for driving, famous for its smog-filled, traffic-choked highways, but what did Forbes Magazine deem the best?
It has the country’s lowest average gas price, cheap insurance, good legal protections and ranked 6th for infrastructure/safety. Here’s a hint: it’s called the Palmetto State.
And yes, California ranked the worst – by far.
Factors included the obvious – where the State ranks in average gas prices (these can fluctuate by as much as 36%!) and insurance rates (some states are three times! those of the lowest found in Maine and Vermont) – and the not so obvious but just as important, such as legal protection (which states are “exploiting” motorists with speed traps and such) and infrastructure, which involve conditions of roads, bridges and safety-related indicators.
Alaska has its own unique driving hazards.
