The R57 MINI Convertible is scheduled to debut at the Detroit Auto Show this winter, but we found a few photos of it now.
It’s difficult to say what you’ll notice first on the new R57 Convertible. The chrome headlight rims and belt line that have switched to black…the missing roll-bar…the black chrome interior…or that funky new little “always open” gauge that measures the amount of miles you’ve driven with the top down. That, or the new colors unique to the convertible: Interchange Yellow or Horizon Blue, with the Hot Chocolate or Denim Blue canvas tops.
The slightly updated version of the current R52 has a larger rear window and a pop-up roll-bar system (also found on the BMW Series 1 and 3) that will greatly improve rear visibility. A factory-installed John Cooper Works engine is also rumored to become available a few months after it hits the showroom floor in the Spring of 2009. Just in time for top-down motoring!
