You know you have too much folding money in your pocket when you choose to slap a $16,000 paint job on your MINI…
MINI UK is once again offering a paint option that actually changes your Cooper's color depending upon where you happen to be viewing it from. Over here it appears to be purple metallic. Walk a few steps and it turns green metallic…then red…
We say “once again” because the paint initially debuted in 2004 under the "Flip Color" option, but was discontinued because – amazingly – not enough customers coughed up the $10,000 for the premium option. Consequently, the chameleon-like color scheme was discontinued in the 2006 model year.
Fast-forward to 2008, when the minds at Mini thought twice about its cancellation and have reintroduced the color option exclusively at a London dealership under the name "Dreamline." The color's effect on passersby is still “Wow!” but the paint job’s cost is now “Whoa!!!” Now buyers who choose this premium option will have to cough up even more coin – a staggering $16,000 – and what do you want to bet more wealthy customers will do it now that it is firmly out of the Proletariat’s reach!
There was no indication if those same minds at Mini are going to take Dreamline on the road – or across the pond – but never say never. I’m sure we all know someone over here who would at least consider it, don’t we?
