A few spy shots have hit the web that reveal some interior changes to the next generation 2014 MINI Cooper. It looks like MINI has taken some tips from parent company BMW that aim to increase the functionality of the MINI dashboard.
The new Cooper will share the same platform as the next-gen BMW 1-series, so similarities between the vehicle interiors should come as little surprise. The new Cooper will retain the signature center speedometer, but it will add a new controller that closely resembles the iDrive knob found in BMW models. The new controller will replace the tiny joystick found in certain MINI models, and will presumably operate the infotainment center found within the vehicle speedometer.
MINI will be replacing the steering wheel with a three-spoke design that features buttons on each side. Speaking of buttons, MINI has swapped out the clumsy center stack buttons present in the current Coopers with a three climate control knobs, five toggle switches and eight labeled buttons.
The automatic shifter knob featured in the picture looks ordinary enough, however it is surrounded by a new dial that allows drivers to switch between “Sport” and “Green” mode, the latter of which helps MINI drivers improve fuel economy.
