MINI has announced that they will be introducing a new line of performance diesel engines, the MINI Cooper SD.
The MINI Cooper SD line will provide consumers with additional power while maintaining high-levels of fuel efficiency, characteristic of diesel engines. MINI’s SD uses a 2.0 liter turbo-diesel engine which produces 143 hp and an impressive 225 ft-lbs of torque (compare to the current MINI D which uses a 1.6 liter 4-cylinder engine produces 112 hp).
The SD will be available in four MINI models including the Cooper, Clubman, Countryman and Convertible. The performance specs and mpg for each vehicle are listed below:
To maximize the SD’s mpg rating, MINI has also added brake energy regeneration, electric power steering, and an auto start-stop system. Though not confirmed, there have been rumblings about a diesel-powered MINI arriving stateside. Stay tuned.
