States across the country have been working diligently to enforce new anti-texting laws designed to protect drivers from the dangers of texting while driving. To help promote the message, one law enforcement group has added a MINI Cooper to its fleet of cruisers.
Mayor Joseph LaPaglia and Police Chief Anthony Jannicelli of Woodcliff Lake, N.J. were recently presented a new MINI Cooper by BMW of North America's CEO/President Jim O’Donnell. The green MINI features a “DON’T TXT & DRIVE” graphic on the side of its body and will be driven through the town as a friendly reminder to drivers that they should save their texting for when they get home. “A driver taking his eyes off the road for five seconds at 60 miles per hour to just read a text message travels the length of the football field essentially with his eyes closed,” noted Police Chief Jannicelli.
As texting and driving becomes a nationwide concern, BMW is pleased to position the MINI as a champion of safety. “All of us in BMW Group believe strongly in ‘DON’T TXT & DRIVE’ and this MINI will carry that message wherever it goes and be a powerful reminder of a serious issue,” said BMW of North America's Jim O’Donnell. As of March 1st, over 30 states have imposed texting-while-driving restrictions.
