It’s a good thing the MINI WRC Team was able to get their act together in time for the Rally Monte Carlo. If they hadn’t, Dani Sordo would not have been able to capture his third career podium finish with the MINI team and his first of 2012, finishing in second place at Rally Monte Carlo.

Fitting too, that the MINI WRC Team perform so well at Rally Monte Carlo, considering the brand’s domination of the event in the 1960’s. Sordo’s performance may not have been a complete surprise to the world of motorsport, with the MINI WRC vehicle winning 2011 Rally Car of the Year. However it was barely a month ago when news surfaced that the MINI team missed the filing date to qualify for the 2012 rally season. This news was of course followed by reports that the team lacked sufficient funding, and would be forced to cancel the contract of driver Kris Meeke.
Aside from a short-lived period of anxiety for fans and the obvious heartbreak felt by poor Kris Meeke (this cannot be understated), the MINI WRC Team seems poised for its first overall win in the 2012, as proven by Sordo’s impressive finish this past week at Monte Carlo. Dani’s second place finished was secured on the final powerstage where he finished 4th overall.
Dani on his finish:
“To score a podium place on the Rally Monte Carlo is always something special. We had to push hard towards the end, but the result proved well worth the effort.”
