In a publicity stunt, MINI has posted a video showing the first MINI Cooper to reach outer space. The photos and video clearly shows the new four-door model hanging off of what appears to be the robotic arm of a large space craft, with the curvature of the earth visible in the background.
The video was conceived as part of MINI South Africa's "A Launch of Galactic Proportions" advertising campaign based around the launch of the new MINI 4-door models, that have much more "space" than the typical 2-door versions. Rather than send an actual MINI Cooper into outer space, which may have been cost prohibitive, and potentially dangerous, MINI engineers had a scale model of a MINI Cooper 3D printed, and launched that instead.
All of which makes for a pretty neat visual effect that garnered over 200,000 views online. Watch the video below showing how it was done.
