Rumblings from a handful of BMW and MINI blogs suggest that the current MINI Cooper will undergo a massive redesign in 2020, just in time for the next generation of vehicles to hit the market.
While details are scarce at the moment, conversations with MINI insiders reveal that the company is of the opinion that the brand is in need of a change, despite the success of its iconic styling. Sources described the brand as, “in need to redefine itself.” To accomplish this goal MINI will be seeking the talents and input of BMW M3 and M4 designer Floran Nissl who was just hired to the MINI team led by Anders Warming, the former BMW head of exterior design.
What can we expect from a MINI design overhaul? It’s difficult to say. MINI’s styling is so closely connected to its brand identity, that any significant design changes will have lasting effects on the company for years to come.
