A recent report from Automobile Magazine indicates that MINI does have long term plans to bring plug-in hybrid and electric model vehicles to the United States in the future.
Bringing electric models to the U.S. would make a lot of sense for MINI given the early success that similar vehicles have enjoyed here. With an increased focus on fuel efficiency and a golden opportunity to sell more vehicles, the question seems to be not if, but when we will be seeing electric MINIs in America.
Peter Schwarzenbauer, BMW’s board member in charge of MINI commented on MINIs intention to address the demand for electric models, as well as fuel-efficient diesel engines. “There will be electrification within the MINI brand, including a plug-in hybrid for certain.” Regarding diesels, Schwarzenbauer added, “the U.S. market is ready for diesels engines now, this is something we definitely have to consider also for MINI.”
We agree with Schwarzenbauer’s assessment and will be anxious to see these new models introduced to U.S. markets in the future.
