Last we wrote, MINI was teasing audiences with a trailer that showed a rally-outfitted MINI Countryman swerving between storage containers just before it approached a ramp to attempt a back flip. The video stopped short of the jump, leaving viewers anticipating the second act, which we have included here.
The remarkable feat was accomplished by seasoned rally driver Guerlain Chicherit in Tignes, France, a location some readers will remember as the site of the 1992 Winter Olympics. MINI is claiming that this is the first back flip executed in a vehicle, which will presumably make the stunt viable for some type of Guinness World record. The flip relied only on the MINI’s powerplant and the considerable driving skills of Mr. Chicherit; the ramp was static and featured no moving components that would have aided in vehicle propulsion or rotation.
