MINI ALL4 Racing fans can rejoice, as MINI ALL4 Racing crew Nasser Al-Attiyah (QAT) and Mathieu Baumel (FRA) took the podium spot in the Hungarian Baja 2015, putting Al-Attiyah at the top of the rankings for the 2015 FIA World Cup for Cross Country Rallies.
In the Hungarian event, Al-Attiyah and co-pilot Baumel got off to a strong start, securing the best time in the opening 1st stage, putting them and their MINI ALL4 Racing at the front of the pack for the main event.
All the while easily navigating the wooded trails, unbeknownst to the crew of the MINI ALL4 Racing, a rear brake disc broke. Despite having to stop to repair it, they still managed win the stage.
Sunday morning was the last stage. The experienced MINI ALL4 racing team proceeded at a cautious pace, and secured second place for Sunday’s stage. The pair also won the overall race by a margin of over 14 minutes, despite incurring a 3 minute time penalty.
With this win, MINI ALL4 Racing are now “the leader in the overall standings of the FIA World Cup,” according to Al-Attiyah, who also holds the Baja title from last year.
