We first reported on the five-door MINI Cooper Hatchback when it made its debut at the 2014 Geneva Motor Show. Now, some of the first spy shot images have emerged of the new five-door in testing, and the vehicle remains pretty true to the designs unveiled at Geneva.
The Cooper photos show the five-door wearing a variation of the yellow camouflage that has become customary with car companies looking to disguise the shape and contour of vehicles prior to release. As far as we can tell, the five-door Cooper looks nearly identical to the two-door model, particularly in the front end. Of course, the notable change comes in the rear half of the vehicle, where the 5-door Cooper features some extra length to accommodate its two extra doors.
5-door MINI Cooper models should use the same engine variations available in its 2-door siblings: a 1.5 liter turbocharged 3-cylinder engine producing 134 hp for the base Cooper, and a 2.0 liter 4-cylinder turbo rated at 189 hp for the Cooper S. Consumers can expect to see the 2015 5-door Cooper available at dealerships later this year.
