In case you’re not up on your MINI enthusiast news, the MINI Countryman Coupe is the official name that MINI has given to the concept vehicle formerly known as the MINI Paceman.
The idea behind the Paceman – er, Countryman Coupe is to provide a vehicle that offers more space and road clearance than the Cooper, Coupe, Roadster and Clubman variants, while maintaining a sporty, “coupe” feel by offering two doors. According to reports from Autoevolution, the pictures below were taken in Germany, and feature a base or entry-level diesel or petrol version of Countryman Coupe. No word yet on whether a diesel model will be made available in the U.S., but it’s fair to assume that the Countryman Coupe will feature the same range of engines included in the rest of the U.S. lineup (including a John Cooper Works tuned 1.6 liter turbo).
MINI plans to officially unveil the Countryman Coupe at the Paris Auto Show this fall. Models should begin arriving in the U.S. in mid-2013.
