Well, the race happened. Porsche showed up, the course was set, the spectators were ready and the flag was dropped. And, believe it or not, Porsche won. Or did they…?

Porsche beats MINI

In the much hyped race we’ve been talking about wherein MINI challenged the Porsche 911 to a race at the famed Road Atlanta racetrack, the Porsche somewhat predictably, won.

They didn’t race on the actual track, of course. That would have too heavily favored the race-proven horsepower and handling of the Porsche. Instead, they set up MINI “cones” all around the infield.

As Brad Davis, MINI driver, explains, “This is a stock car and we wanted to create a course to see how it will handle in real life situations. No matter what happens, win, lose or draw, we’re here to have fun. Other manufacturers don’t seem to know how to have fun like MINI does.”

Cory Friedman, Porsche driver, was good naturedly commenting before the race that he thought the course kind of evened things up for both drivers and both vehicles. Yeah, right.

So… in the end the Porsche won… by all of two seconds. MINI likes to point out that that adds up to $38,000 per second, for a difference overall of $76,000.

Maybe that’s what MINI had in mind all along.
