Sharing the same platform but riding on an even shorter wheelbase could bring it closer to the original’s 80.3” tire print, but would it be profitable?

"The idea to create a highly compact MINI model is one that has been on the agenda for quite a while," an inside source told our friends at Autocar. "On the outside it would appear a natural fit for the brand, but profitability is a major concern at this end of the market. It's one thing making a good looking small car, but it's another thing to make money on it."
Rumors have it that BMW will test consumer interest by introducing a concept model of the mini-er MINI in Geneva next March. Everyone else is going downsized… why not MINI?
