Remember the fanfare surrounding the All-Electric MINI Superleggera concept a few months ago? This beautiful MINI concept made its debut a few months ago and the internet is still abuzz with rumors and speculation about its future production. Well it seems that the BMW Group has plans to make a decision about the vehicle’s fate within the next six months.
The two-seat, all-electric concept is a stylistic wonder that differs greatly in design and style from the rest of the MINI lineup. This eye-catching appearance contributed greatly to its popularity with enthusiasts groups and made quit the impression with MINI brass as well. Still, a groundswell of public support does not always translate to a successful product launch, so MINI and parent company BMW Group are weighing their options carefully. MINI has been very public about their intentions to increase economies of scale by reducing their vehicle offerings to five flagship models. Its difficult to see where the Superleggera would fit into this mix.
“To really investigate seriously … you look into several different options, you come to the question: do we produce it ourselves, do we give it to somebody else?” noted BMW board member Peter Schwarzenbauer. Perhaps we’ll see the Superleggera offered in super-limited quantities for collectors with deep pockets. Only time will tell, but its clear that the BMW Group are very fond of the concept. Six more months and we should have our answer.
