News >The MINI Cooper S JCW GP: “Super Cooper”
It’s been rumored and discussed. It’s been confirmed and announced.
And now – it’s (almost) here. The MINI
Cooper S with John Cooper Works (JCW) GP Kit.
Billed as the fastest (60 mph in under 6.5 seconds; top speed of 150 mph) and
most powerful (214 HP) MINI ever, only 2,000 cars will be produced. This special
limited edition is MINI’s way of saying goodbye to current styling as
they gear up for a redesign in 2007.
And what a way to go.
In designing the GP (which stands for Grand Prix – an homage to Mini’s
racing roots) engineers focused on agility and driving stability. With the power
boost and weight reduction of 110 pounds, drivers will appreciate the standard
limited slip differential, high performance brakes and sports suspension.
On the outside, form and function meet with low profile tires, specially designed
18 inch light-alloy rims and a full featured aerodynamics package including
front and rear air dams, extra-low side-sills and an underfloor cover. The roof
spoiler is similar to one used on cars raced in the MINI
Challenge.
The GP made its official debut at the Geneva Motor Show in late February. The
2,000 units being produced will have a distinctive appearance. Harkening back
to the days when Henry Ford said “You can have it in any color so long
as it’s black,” the MINI GP comes in one color scheme and one color
scheme only. The body will be a metallic Thunder Blue, and the roof is finished
in Pure Silver which is also repeated in the surrounds on the air scoops and
in the front air dam. Complementing the red painted front brake calipers, the
exterior mirrors are wrapped in fiery Chili Red.
As if this exclusive finish isn’t distinctive enough, each MINI GP has
its unique production number embossed on the roof and on the dash. MINIUSA reports that 415 GPs are destined for the United States, with an MSRP of $31,150.
Corporate headquarters further reports that no, you cannot make a special request
for GP # 0007!!
