BMW of North America, LLC (BMW) is recalling approximately 91,800 MINI vehicles ranging from 2005 to 2008 for a potential defect related to the passenger-side airbag occupancy sensor. Recalled vehicles include MINI Coopers, Cooper Convertibles and Cooper S models.
Due to a variety of issues with the passenger seat occupancy-sensing pad, there is a possibility that the passenger side airbag in affected vehicles might not perform properly during a collision. BMW reports that they are aware of only one minor injury due to this defect, which has affected BMW cars as well as the MINI line. Owners of MINIs subject to the recall should receive notification, and dealers will perform the repairs free of charge. The recall is expected to begin May 1, 2015.
However, we recommend checking your VIN against the NHTSA website, or contacting MINI customer service directly at 1-866-825-1525. For more extended info, the full NHTSA page for this specific recall can be found here.
